# Agents and MCP

Notarium ships with a built-in MCP gateway — a narrow set of tools scoped to specific tasks rather than general-purpose operations on your data. This set breaks the "lethal trifecta" (private data × untrusted content × outbound channel) and gives an agent the same capabilities a person has.

## In this section

- **Connecting an agent** — token, connector, transport.
- **Agent rules** — make sessions start with `start_session` by pinning it in a rules file.
- **Intent tools** — the full set of 21 tools.
- **Agent memory** — remember / recall.
- **Context sets and pins** — what an agent sees at startup.
- **Retrieval audit** — what the agent searched for and opened.
- **Security and visibility** — a check of scope and permissions on every call.
